Four application markets

ALPHA-RLH promotes collaborative innovation in four application markets: Aeronautics-Space-Defense, Communication-Security, Energy-Smart Building, Health (Medical Devices and Autonomy).

Aerospace & Defense

Communication & Security

Energy & Intelligent Buildings

Healthcare (Medical devices & Autonomy)

Aerospace & Defense

The aim of this area of expertise is to foster exchanges and collaborations between aerospace and defense contractors and the photonics and microwave communities.

It includes 2 programs:‍

  • The SAPHyR collaborative innovation initiative, aimed at developing an industry based on photonic and microwave solutions for the aerospace market.
  • The PHAROS (Photonics, Hyperfrequencies, Aeronautics and Space) business area, run in conjunction with the Aerospace Valley competitiveness cluster.

There are many areas of interest, in line with the challenges facing the ASD sector, such as NewSpace, decarbonization, securing flows (physical and information), ecological and energy transitions... :

  • On-board navigation/communication systems (lasers, fiber optics, radionavigation, radiocommunication, etc.)
  • On-board optronic systems: display, imaging, lighting, on-board LIDAR, etc.
  • The factory of the future: laser processes on materials, robotics, NDT, reshaping, treatment of materials for aerostructures...
  • People detection: night vision, remote sensing, radar...
  • Imaging and signal transmission for space and astronomy
  • Digital via collaborative virtual and augmented reality applications for designing new systems and monitoring environments
  • Cognitics to integrate human factors into the design and ergonomics of state-of-the-art equipment
  • Cryptographic developments for secure communications and information transmission
  • MCO/MRO operational support resources: corrective, adaptive and predictive maintenance.

Communication & Security

This area of expertise covers RF (Radio Frequency), 5G cellular, wireless and wired telecommunications applications, as well as communications networks, protocols and industrial IoT buses, optical links, radar and lidar. Data security and transfer is an essential component, with cryptography, computer data protection, protection of intelligent networks and cards, and traceability/counterfeiting remaining major topical issues.

The ALPHA-RLH cluster is developing top-level expertise in:‍

  • Regalian" signals: GSM, EDGE, 3G, LTE, 4G, 5G - GPS, GNSS
  • In/outdoor geolocation
  • Satellite links
  • Protocols (Network, Automation, Home automation, Fieldbus...) : Ethernet, TCP/IP, WiFi, Bluetooth, LiFi
  • Modbus, Fieldbus, Profibus, Profinet, OPC-UA - RS-485, I2C, CAN, AFDX, LIN, NMEA 2000
  • Home automation (Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter)
  • Sigfox, LORA
  • Cybersecurity: Firewall
  • Crypto AES
  • Cyber probes
  • Bus monitoring
  • Crypto quantum and post-quantum
  • Counterfeiting: Traceability (RF & optical)
  • NIR / VIS spectrometryThis expertise enables manufacturers to offer innovative technological solutions that meet market needs.

Energy & Intelligent Buildings

This area of expertise covers the entire value chain in the energy and intelligent building sectors.

Energy-related topics include renewable energies and energy efficiency:
